The powder room was where she felt like she could have a little more fun with color; it was a previous add-on, meaning she could be less precious about updates she wanted to make as she wouldn’t be losing any original details. The wallpaper she chose for the powder room, called “Apothecary Garden” by Trust Worth, is actually a print from 1926, which goes amazingly well with their 1928 home. Trying to add in more of those original details that were left out in the addition, she added Delta’s Victorian line of fixtures and faucets to create a more seamless continuation of the home’s age. While the home was already one-of-a-kind, adding vintage-inspired wallpaper and light fixtures was a top priority to give the home its due and revel in its history.
When Emily Sells and her husband James moved into their elegant two-bedroom apartment in Paris, France, they set up the large spare room as Emily’s creative studio. She’s been running her stationery and design company, Ever After Press, out of this space since they moved in 2.5 years ago. The stately fireplace, balcony access, gorgeous architectural moldings and high ceilings made it a dream environment where she could create her lovely designs. In order to make the Stillmans’ home of 35 years functional for the needs of their family today, Rose Praino of YDC Design worked with her Scarsdale, NY-based clients to clear out rooms full of memories before her process could even begin. “I do believe this was harder than they foresaw,” she admits. “On the flip side, because of the renovations, all three kids are rushing to call dibs on rooms for weekends and holidays.”
